General Guidelines and Useful Tips about Madrid Barajas Airport

General Airport Information

Madrid Barajas Airport, officially named Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, is the main airport serving the area of the Spanish capital and belongs among the 5 busiest European air hubs. Barajas Airport plays an important part in the connection between Europe and Latin America. Perhaps, this is the reason why it is listed among the 20 most bustling airports worldwide. Serving more than 100 airlines, the airport welcomes millions of passengers annually and handles international and domestic flights, with the famous “Puente aéreo”, the Madrid-Barcelona line, being among them. The airport is located at a 13 km distance from the city center and is connected to Madrid via taxi, bus, metro, and train.

Terminals

Being among the busiest airports globally, Madrid Airport has 4 terminal buildings, with a free shuttle bus handling the between-terminals transfers. T1, T2, and T3 form a complex and are reachable on foot. However, the free shuttle bus needs 10 minutes to travel from T1 to T4, located at a 6km distance. Moreover, T4 is spread into two buildings. Free transfers between T4 and T4S (the satellite terminal) are available via an automatic underground train.

Are you on the lookout for a cozy and comfortable hotel near Madrid Airport? Or, on the contrary, is Madrid city center the place to stay during your journey? In any case, Madrid’s hotels won’t let you down. From luxurious, 5-star hotels to homely guesthouses and comfy B&Bs, Madrid’s accommodation options are as attractive as the city itself.

Terminal car parks, low-cost options, long-stay facilities, and VIP services are available at T1, T2 (also serving T3 passengers), and T4.
